“I may not be a better technician when this is all said and done, but I know I’ll be a better musician.”
~ Lisa Spector, “Play On!” Coach for Musicians
A traumatic fall in June of 2017 shattered my right hand along with my spirit. Little did I know how much that experience would pivot my life in a completely new direction. After three surgeries for seven complicated fractures, I dove into music for left hand only. It wasn’t easy, emotionally or physically. I didn’t see myself as a one-handed pianist, and it took at least half a year before those notes turned into music. But, it gradually became easier when I realized it only appeared music came from my hands. I really make music with my heart.
After a 4th right hand surgery, I'm playing again with two hands. When I learned to adapt my mind and let go of my attachment to returning to how my hand used to play, I became quite skilled at adaptive piano. Listeners don't know or hear all the modifications I make with my right hand, but music doors to my soul have opened up that have my heart soaring and inspiring my listeners.
If you're a musician who's had a physical or emotional setback and have been desiring to return to your instrument but you've been blocked, I'm here to help you adapt your mindset so that you can make music again with your heart.
“Play On!” coaching is available in private one-one-one sessions online via Zoom calls, and in workshops (when available) with other recovering musicians.
